When it was first launched in 1843 the SS Great Britain was the largest ship of its kind and she lead a diverse and exciting life, but since her return to Bristol Docks she has been rumoured to be home to several ghosts and strange happenings. This magnificent ship is open to the public and promises a fascinating day trip for those of all ages. From experiencing what it would have been like to sail on such a ship in the Victorian ages to examining her detail in the dry dock, the SS Great Britain offers a truly educational experience, but if you’re after something a little more paranormal, the SS Great Britain is said to be one of the most haunted places in the UK. In 1872 the ship’s captain, John Gray disappeared after suffering from illness, thought to be suicide his ghost has been sighted on several occasions about the ship, reports have also been made of hearing piano music playing in empty rooms and locked doors been opened and slammed closed. Between the fascinating history, the stunning visuals and paranormal happenings, there is bound to be something is this day trip to entertain the whole family.

London has a vast offering of entertaining days out for the whole family, and if you’re looking for paranormal activities you’re not going to be disappointed. Being the oldest standing castle in the world, Windsor Castle as been host to the royal family for hundreds of years and to this day is still one of the official residences to the Queen. Open to the public, you can watch the changing of the guards or explore some of the castle’s stunning architecture and view some of the most spectacular pieces of art in the world. After standing for over 900 years it’s not surprising it’s gathered a few indistinct residents too. Perhaps the most famous ghostly resident at Windsor castle is that of King Henry VIII who has been sighted on numerous occasions wheezing and stomping about in his heavy boots, when she’s not too busy haunting The Tower Of London, his ill fated wife Anne Boleyn is sometimes seen looking out one of the windows. A few members of the royal family have even claimed to see Queen Elizabeth I although she is only ever sighted dressed in head to toe black as if in mourning. Like the SS Great Britain, Windsor Castle also offers a great range of entertainment and education for the whole family.

If you prefer your history a little more Romantic and a little less gory, the legend of King Arthur may be for you. Ledged has it that King Arthur led the British defences against the Saxon invasion during the 6th Century. Although little is known about him and his very existence is subject to debate, the legend and the myth surrounding him is encapsulating. The legend of King Arthur is strewn throughout Britain but has some of its strongest routes in Cornwall. The stories of King Arthur and his knights of the round table talk of victorious battles, wizards and magic and love and betrayal and have been circulating for hundreds of years, long before Shakespeare penned his great tragedies or Harry Potter was fighting evil foes yet the parodies prove what a classic narrative it is. Throughout Cornwall there are ties to the myths and legends of Arthur just waiting for you to explore them, The village of Titangel in Cornwall is said to be the birth place of this valiant king and home for much of his early life, the Dozmary Pool also situated in Cornwall is said to be the bottomless lake King Arthur’s sword, Excalibur was cast into after he was mortally wounded. No trip to Cornwall’s mythical culture would be complete without a visit to St. Michaels Mount, rumoured to be a battle ground in which King Arthur defeated a local giant. If you’re in the West Country and looking for an exciting day trip out to capture the kid’s imagination this half term, why not see what you can find in Cornwall?

It’s always going to be tricky finding something entertaining to please the whole family, but with a little research you’re bound to find something worth investigating that can enthral all of you within Britain’s diverse cultural heritage.

Haunted Lighthouses – New London Ledge Lighthouse
Dec 11th, 2009 by admin

most haunted series

Located at the mouth of the Thames River, entrance to New London Harbor, Connecticut at the eastern end of Long Island Sound sits the New London Ledge Lighthouse. Built in 1909 on the Southwest Ledge, the lighthouse was originally called the Southwest Ledge Light, but to avoid confusion with another lighthouse in New Haven, the Southwest Ledge Light, the lighthouse was renamed to New London Ledge Light in 1910.
This lighthouse itself is a unique, one-of-a-kind structure with square red brick quarters topped with a mansard roof (a French type of roof designed to make maximum use of the interior space of the attic) and a circular lantern room. To appease the residents who didnt want to gaze upon an eyesore sitting in the sea, the lighthouse was built in Colonial and French architectural style in order to blend in with the large and historic homes on the shores.
The lighthouse was finally built after a half-century of petitions requesting an offshore lighthouse – the first one in 1845 – from mariners and residents stating the dangers to maritime traffic in the area due to the inadequcy of the four buoys in the harbor and the The New London Harbor Lighthouse on the shore. The Lighthouse Board detailed the inherent dangers to maritime traffic at New London to Congress in 1902 and 1903 and requested funds for constructing a lighthouse. The construction was completed in 1909. The United States Coast Guard officially took over the care of the lighthouse in 1939 and still keeps an eye on the place. Most of the stories of the ghostly lightkeeper have come from the Coast Guard crews manning the lighthouse.
New London Ledge is locally famous for the ghost nicknamed Ernie who allegedly haunts the lighthouse. The famous ghost legend Ernie was a lightkeeper supposedly jumped to his death from the roof of the lighthouse after learning that his wife ran off with the captain of the Block Island Ferry in 1936.
Ernie is said to make his presence known by opening and closing doors, washing the decks, operating the light and fog signal, and untying secured boats to let them drift away. Before the station was automated, Coast Guard crews on duty reported frequently hearing mysterious knocks on their bedroom doors in the middle of the night, doors opening and closing, the television being turned on and off repeatedly, and covers pulled off the end of their bed.
The New London Ledge Lighthouse was the last remaining manned lighthouse on Long Island Sound when it was finally automated in 1987. Since then, reports of Ernie’s visits have dramatically decreased, most likely because there is hardly ever anyone there. This seems to be a relief to those who were stuck manning the light house. The final day of manned operation shows a log entry reading, “A Rock of slow torture. Ernie’s domain. Hell on earth. May New London Ledge’s light shine on forever because I’m through. I will watch it from afar while drinking a brew.”
There have been investigations at the lighthouse. In the late ’90s, a TV reporter from Japan spent a night inside the lighthouse to investigate the story of Ernie, and loud whispering noises were heard through the night, audible on camera. The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS), who have become known by their series “Ghost Hunters” on the Sci-Fi Channel, investigated the place in 2005 but made no significant observations.
Today, the lighthouse is leased by the Coast Guard to the New London Ledge Lighthouse Foundation, partly funded by the City of New London. The lighthouse is used as a maritime classroom, while the Coast Guard continues to maintain the automated light. The group plans to eventually open the lighthouse as a museum and may offer overnight accommodations.

3 Places To Enjoy A Haunted Half Term In Your Motorhome
Dec 10th, 2009 by admin

most haunted series

As the nights start to draw in and the weather gets colder, many of us start to look towards cosy nights in front of warm fires and the summer fades to a distant memory. Before we start stocking up on festive wrapping paper and dusting of the mince pies there’s plenty of fun to be had first.

With Halloween conveniently placed at the end of half term why not get the kids interested in some of Britain’s rich heritage (not to mention spending some quality time with the family) with a short break in your motorhome? Thanks to recent media sensations, the paranormal is more popular than ever with the younger generation so why not take this opportunity to really spark their interest in history and with a motorhome at your disposal, no corner of the UK is out of your reach. Here are just a few places that have a fascinating enough history to excite the children, intrigue the teenagers and even entertain you.

Let’s start with perhaps the most well known of haunted place in Britain, the Tower of London. Most famously known as a royal fortress to imprison those of high standing within society, the Tower is a great place to start educating the younger generation about the history of Britain and the monarchy without boring them, even the ghosts are educational. The most famous allegedly being that of Anne Boleyn who was beheaded on the orders of King Henry VIII. British history may have connotations of being boring and stuffy, Anne Boleyn was anything but, held on charges of adultery, incest and treason her life is bound to capture the interest of your children, maybe you can spot her ghost wandering around the grounds carrying her severed head under her arm.

If you want to take your motorhome to explore some of Britain’s tranquil scenery and escape the hustle of the big cities, the stunning Thirlmere Lake in the Lake District boasts some of the most beautiful landscapes in the UK, originally two smaller lakes the water hides a sinister secret, Armboth House. Legend has it, the occupying family were arranging the wedding for their daughter due to take place the next day, when they were informed their daughter had been pushed and drowned in the surrounding lake. Although the murderer was never caught, strange happenings were still reported at the house long after the family abandoned it, lights would be turned on, sounds of the wedding feast being prepared could be heard, always on the same day every year, the day of her death, Halloween. The house has lain submerged beneath the waters of the lake for over a hundred years now but many who visit the area still report to feel a chill and strangely unsettled especially on Halloween. While the kids enjoy the eerie mystery, the picturesque surroundings are bound to keep you enthralled too.

If you would like a little more education with your paranormal, it might be worth taking your motorhome down to Sussex. The battle of Hastings took place in 1066 in a small town that is known today as Battle and is often included in most schools history curriculum. Whilst this may not necessarily capture your children’s interest, the site itself is of course rumoured to be haunted. Battle Abbey was built to commemorate the battle and help defend England during in the 100 year war, and although part of it now lies in ruins, it is open to the public and is supposedly haunted by a whole host of ghosts including an apparition wandering around with a spear in his eye (King Harold?), a knight on horseback and the plaque on the alter to mark the death of King Harold running with blood all of which seem more likely to make an appearance on the October anniversary of the battle. With all the paranormal activity in this small town, it’s impossible not to get your interest in British history sparked.

With a motorhome at your disposal there is no corner of the UK that you can’t explore, and with so much on offer you’re bound to find something to capture the imagination and interest of the whole family without having to spend a fortune on expensive holiday packages, so whether it’s just an overnight trip or a week away – enjoy!

Your Guide To A Haunted Holiday in Britain
Dec 9th, 2009 by admin

most haunted series

Do you fancy a change from the conventional week by the sea for your holiday this year, are you bored of spending your holiday in the same country cottage? How about a haunted holiday? Britain boasts a very rich and intricate history and the tradition of the ghost story keeps that history alive, we’ve all heard the stories of the tower of London which is reportedly still home to a whole host of its unfortunate victims, our most popular literature is also full of the supernatural, from Shakespeare through to Harry Potter, as a nation we do seem rather obsessed with supernatural spirits – so why not spend a short break in one of the UK’s most haunted hotels, or even just a day trip?

Chillingham Castle in the north east of England is argued to be one of the most haunted castles in the UK and has featured on several television and radio programmes over the years. The castle offers self catering apartments for holidays and its picturesque setting makes it the perfect venue for weddings, romantic weekends away or simply a day trip to see the stunning grounds and castle. With its long and detailed history it’s not surprising it’s rumoured to be home to several ghosts, including the blue boy, who was trapped behind a brick wall after stumbling across some important documents, when his body was uncovered in the 1920’s, his fingers were worn away where he’d tried to scratch his way out. Although the pink room, where his body was found, is closed to the public, screams were still heard coming from behind the wall which witnessed his death. Chillingham Castle is also resident to Lady Mary Berkeley who is rumoured to still be wondering the halls in broken hearted after her husband ran away with her sister.

The stunning Glamis Castle was the childhood home of the Queen Mother and set in the most tranquil of Scottish country side, it was also the setting for Shakespeare’s Macbeth and to this day still conjures images of witches and the supernatural. With tickets available for day trips to view the castle and gardens this beautiful castle is the perfect family day out or an exquisite setting for a wedding. Like most castles, particularly of this age (dating back to the 14th century), it is plagued with supernatural stories ranging from secret rooms to conceal deformed children, to soul sucking devil card players to entertain drunk noblemen to traditional old fashion hauntings, all of which promise an interesting story to fascinate even the most firm of sceptics.

It’s not just magnificent castles which host the most spectacular ghost stories; the Station Hotel in Dudley may appear to be simply a conventional hotel, with its inviting atmosphere and convenient location in the heart of the country. It’s not until you explore its theatrical history and see the impressive list of former guests ranging from Laurel and Hardy to Bob Hope that it starts to become so intriguing. Although many of the ghost stories surrounding this intriguing haunted hotel seem to have found their fame on a popular paranormal television show, the most commonly reported ghost is that of a young woman who was murdered after threatening to inform her killer’s wife of his infidelity. She never got the chance as it’s reported that after he killed her, he disposed of her body sending it through a chute that ended in the cellar (which along with room 214) is reported to be one of the most haunted places in the building.

So if you’re looking for an interesting day trip or a short break away somewhere and you don’t want to have to rely on Britain’s unpredictable weather, why not visit one of these stunning places?

An Inconvenient Spirit: Selling Your Haunted House
Dec 7th, 2009 by admin

most haunted series

Selling a haunted house is a difficult proposition if the ghosts are particularly noisy or violent. Many home buyers eschew atmosphere for the dull life of the bright house or bungalow untenanted by a disturbed spirit. Therefore, fixing up your house to sell may involve various preparations to reduce the impact of ghosts, spirits, otherworldly emanations and other supernatural phenomena.

Exorcism is one method of ridding oneself of a nuisance supernatural presence. However, it could be seen as discrimination and “supernaturalism”, which could lead to the ghost’s right to seek legal redress. Be aware that through adverse possession processes, the spirit may actually have legal rights to the house and mediation (as well as a medium) may be in order to resolve the conflict.

One must be sensitive to the fact that many ghosts come from diverse religious belief systems that would make using a priest from a Christian background extremely offensive. More importantly, it may not work if there is a lack of belief. In the case of an atheist ghost, you may have to resort to a copy of “The Origin of Species” to help form your exorcism rite.

Do not despair if exorcism does not work or, in the interests of equality, is not an option. There are other routes for the home seller with an inconvenient spirit. Many spirits are open to communication, but steps may have to be made to accommodate them. Rapping on the walls, table or doors may be the only mode of communication a spirit has and it is imperative to take all necessary steps to aid the corporeally-challenged in their quest for equal access to communication. It may help to engage the services of someone versed in Morse Code, as “yes” and “no” may not be precise enough to convey the particulars of a ghost’s concerns.

Try to have a seance with the ghost and attempt to impress upon it the importance of not creating an uncomfortable atmosphere until the sale is concluded. Mention the fact that if the house is not sold quickly, a reputation very quickly develops that makes it difficult to find buyers, not to mentioned the easily possessed or precocious children. If you can, have a copy of current real estate laws and related information for the specter to peruse; ensure that it knows that “pre-approved” does not mean “sold” and that it is wise to refrain from frightening new owners until it is certain that the house is transferred fully into their possession.

If the spirit is resistant to all forms of communication and/or exorcism, extreme steps must be taken. If the house is exceptionally well-appointed and in a smallish community with low crime called “Sunnyvale” or “Friendlyville”, there will usually be no problem finding a couple from the big city seeking a nice house in the suburbs or a bedroom community for their children and dog. The only problem with this strategy is that you will probably have to lower the price to some ridiculously low amount that would make any other home buyer suspicious. Don’t worry. The family from the city probably won’t even have a home inspection done.

Demon Hauntings – A Brief Synopsis
Dec 6th, 2009 by admin

most haunted series

A demon is considered to be a powerful, supernatural being that is generally malevolent (wishing or appearing to wish evil to others) in character. The word demon comes from the Greek word daimon, which means a divine or semi-divine power that determined a person’s fate. Some believe demons are angels who have fallen from grace or have chosen to take the cross over to the dark side, so to speak.
Demons are evil, supernatural beings of intelligence, wit, and immense power. They have the power to invade our homes, attach themselves to objects, and inflict torture both mentally and emotionally by attacking or even possessing the human body.
Demons are usually portrayed as large, muscular, human-like creatures. They are usually thought to be red, winged, and even surrounded by fire. They can take on any form they want, but mostly commonly it is a half man, half animal form.
In many cases, demons are summoned by someone using a Ouija board, or tinkering with some form to magic, witchcraft,or demon worship that perhaps they shouldn’t be tinkering with. They most likely don’t know what they could be getting themselves into.
Demonic hauntings are commonly represented by a stench similar to rotting flesh or sulfuric acid. The air in the area will feel thick and the temperature will drastically change, typically becoming warmer, although intense coldness is sometimes present. Growling sounds seem to come from everywhere all at once. The sounds of manacing laughter or disembodies voices speaking in foreign tongues, usually Latin, can often be heard. The demon may make verbal threats or throw objects. They like to push, shove, hit, and scratch. They may cause nightmares, consistent bad luck, and overwhelming senses of hate, anger, and evil. A demon’s main goal seems to be to break down a person’s free will so they can possess them.
Demons have the ability to morph into any shape they want. They can change from a human form to an inhuman form before your very eyes. They are neither male nor female, but will change to whatever meets their need at the time. Demons are commonly seen as black masses standing in doorways or in the corner of the room.
Demon hauntings usually start in a subtle way. Faucets dripping, scratches in the walls, thumping sounds. These behaviors are typically the same behaviors displayed by a poltergiest, but more extreme. It’s common for several entities to exist in one location with a strong evil presence seemingly controlling the others and not allowing them to cross over.
It is believed that demons hate humans and think them very lowly and stupid. Demons should never be challenged, unless you want a crash course on how weak you really are. Most demonic entities like a challenge and are incredibly conniving; they may have you believing they are good spirits or may appear to have gone away, only to confront you again at the least expected and most vulnerable moment.
Short of an exorcism, which is usually successful, some believe it may be possible to actually command a demon to leave. Be persistent, show no fear and tell it to get out. They will leave, although not necessarily right away, but keep trying. Also, it’s been said that demons don’t like to be ignored. If it can’t get you to fear it, then the game is over. Like say they, ignore it and it will go away. It’s worth a shot at least.
Something else that might help is smudging. To smudge your house, open the windows and light a bundle of dried sage. Sage is believed to clear away negative energy and spirits. Catch the ashes with a plate held underneath the bundle and walk around your home to cleanse it with the sage smoke. It is also said that sprinkling holy water throughout the house might work too.
Demons have lived for thousands of years and will be here long after we’re gone. Although it’s possible to get a demon to leave a place with the above mentioned methods, but they may not necessarily be destroyed. They may just find a new place to terrorize.

Hauntings Explained
Dec 5th, 2009 by admin

most haunted series

Over the years I have been called to many situations where people believed they or rather their houses were being haunted. I am going to try to explain a little here about the various causes and possible explanations and how I dealt with each situation. Firstly I have to say that not all of the so called hauntings I get called to turn out to be cases of paranormal activity, yet they are still perhaps a little mystical in there nature. What I am talking about here is the vast majority of cases that involve simple energy and I am talking about energy from people who are here now and not past over. For example I was once called out to a house where the landlady was experiencing huge problems in trying to rent the house out. In fact the house was split into flats and one of the flats was never let for very long with the tenants often saying that there was something very strange about the place. When I entered this flat I did get a strong feeling of loss and sadness but I didn’t sense any earth bound entities. There was a large mirror in the room and a bed with an old side cupboard, the walls were dull and the place felt drab and empty. Frankly I thought, “This lady doesn’t need a psychic she needs and interior decorator” who would rent this place. Anyway I picked up almost immediately that a young man had stayed there for some time but was very depressed and was practically drinking himself to death, he would just sit and stare into the mirror. She confirmed that this was indeed the case and that the young man had moved out recently. I explained that his energy was left behind and this is what was being picked up. So I cleared the place using standard clearing techniques and told her to get rid of the mirror and decorate the place, in fact all the other flats were the same. It turned out that Karma had a part to play here as well, you see there was a family renting the whole house previously, but the landlady decided she could get more money by dividing the house into flats. So she finished this families agreement, now she was finding she couldn’t rent out the flats. The moral of this is obvious; karma will adjust itself in all situations. So what about actual hauntings, do they happen. Sure they do and more often than you would imagine. Generally I find that they fall into two distinctive categories. Firstly there is the case of natural earth bound entities and secondly there are the cases of invited entities, what I mean by invited is that if you play around with say a ouija board or dark magic in any way then you are inviting trouble into your home. Thankfully the latter is becoming more rare these days but it still happens. In the cases of natural earth bound entities it is quite simple to assist the spirit to pass over, normally if they are causing trouble in any way it is only because they feel their space is being invaded, you see they often don’t realize that they have in fact past over. With the help of those in Spirit they generally pass over quite quickly. In the case of the invited entities it’s a whole different ball game and I normally know what I am going to be dealing with when people say things like “we have already had a Medium round and it got worse” or they say “Our local Priest did something but it didn’t help”. You see in these cases more specialist knowledge and action is required. The methods used to banish etc are taught in the Esoteric Orders and often Inner Masters are called upon to assist, you can forget salt and prayers in these situations. One thing people don’t realize is that if you play with something like a Ouija board you are opening doors on the Astral Planes that can be difficult to close if you do not have the knowledge and experience of such matters These things are not toys and as the old saying goes, play with fire and you get burntHowever like I said these cases are perhaps in decline these days and thankfully it is a joy to help some poor earthbound spirit cross over and be joined again with their loved ones, this makes rescue work worthwhile.

The Hauntings of Alcatraz
Dec 5th, 2009 by admin

most haunted series

Located in San Francisco Bay with a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge and downtown San Francisco, you’ll find perhaps the most famous prison in the world. Alcatraz, nicknamed “The Rock”, was originally known as “La Isla de los Alcatraces” or “The Island of the Pelicans” because of its appearance as a barren white rock. The white was caused by pelican droppings, hence the name. It served as a lighthouse, then a military fortification, then a military prison followed by a federal prison until 1963, when it became a national recreation area. Today it is maintained by the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and nearly a million visitors per year stop by to check the place out.
The island, believed to be an evil place by Native Americans, has seen centuries of death from accidents, murders, and suicides. With this dark history, it’s no wonder Alcatraz is said to be one of the most haunted places in the nation. If ghosts return to haunt the places where they suffered traumatic experiences when they were alive, then Alcatraz must be bursting at the seams with spirits.
For years there have been reports of mysterious happenings on Alcatraz Island. These reports come from visitors, former guards, former prisoners, and national park service employees. From the original lighthouse reappearing on occasion to clanging, screaming, and sobbing, there are too many tales to put into this short article. It would definitely take a book to tell them all. Some of the strange occurences are recounted in the following paragraphs.
The Lighthouse – There have been several reports that on foggy nights the old lighthouse, built in 1854 and torn down after it was damaged in the great 1906 San Francisco earthquake, will suddenly appear, accompanied by an eerie whistling sound and a flashing green light that makes its way slowly around the island and then vanishes as suddenly as it appears.
The Grounds – Many guards and park rangers have reported experiencing unexplainable crashing sounds, cell doors mysteriously closing, unearthly screams, and intense feelings of being watched. A number of guards from 1946 through 1963 experienced something out of the ordinary at one time or another. There have been reports of sounds of sobbing and moaning, horrible smells, phantom cannon shots, gun shots, and screams. Once in a while, groups of phantom prisoners and soldiers appear in front of startled guards, guests, and the families who lived on the island. None of these occurances have ever been explained.
The door and the corridor – Behind a door in Cellblock C that looks as if it has been welded shut, lies the utility corridor where Bernard Coy, Joseph Cretzer and Marvin Hubbard were killed by grenades and bullets during the bloodiest escape attempt in Alcatraz’s history in 1946. Additionally, the attempt took the lives of two guards and injured 18 others. The trial afterward resulted in the execution of two more convicts who took part in the aborted escape. Behind this door can sometimes be heard loud clanging along with the sounds of people running as if trying to escape and disembodied voices. Others have reported seeing the apparitions of men wearing fatigues at the site of the riot that left the three prisoners dead. As a result, this utility corridor is recognized as one of the most haunted spots in the prison.
The laundry room – Also in Cellblock C is the laundry room that is said to hold an unseen presence. The story is told that a hit man named Butcher was killed in the laundry room. The room is said to occasionally emanate a strong odor of smoke, as if something was on fire. The sensation of the choking smoke would drive guards out of the room, only to return a few minutes later, the area now completely smoke free.
The most haunted area on Alcatraz is Cellblock D, or solitary, as it was often called. D-Block, which became known as the Treatment Unit was made up of 42 cells with varying restrictions. None of the prisoners put in D-Block was able to have contact with the general population. These inmates were not allowed to work or go to the mess hall to eat; they had to eat in their cells. They were allowed one visit to the recreation yard and two showers a week. These cells faced the Golden Gate Bridge, from which fierce cold winds often blew and one guard who worked D-Block was notorious for turning on the air conditioning to make it even colder for those confined on the block.
Five of the cells in D-Block, cells 9-14, are known as “The Hole,”. These cells contained only a sink and toilet, had no windows and only one light with a low-wattage bulb that could be turned off by the guards on a whim. The darkness made it seem like a hole in the ground. Reserved for the most serious prison rule breakers, these cells were located on the bottom tier, the coldest place in the prison. All mattresses were taken away during the day and the prisoners were not allowed time in the yard, showers, or reading materials. Inmates could be sentenced to up to 19 days in the hole, completely isolated from the rest of the world.
Needless to say, these horrible conditions led to misery, anger, and possibly even insanity. That ambiance seems to linger to this day. Most people who go to Cellblock D get feelings of sudden intensity and a feeling of cold in certain cells, especially cell 14-D. This cell is often reported to be 20 degrees colder than the rest of the cells on the block. Psychics who have visited the area reported picking up on the feelings of torture, misery, and abuse that were left behind by 29 years’ worth of prisoners who were forced to stay there. These cells are so eerie that some national park service employees refuse to go there alone.
A guard who worked at the prison in the 1940’s reported that guards often saw the ghostly presence of a man dressed in late 1800’s prison attire was often seen walking the hallway of “The Hole”. Perhaps the strangest event occured when an inmate locked in a cell in “The Hole” immediately began to scream that someone with glowing eyes was in there with him. The spectral prisoner had become so much of a practical joke among the guards that the convict’s cries were ignored. The inmate’s screams continued well into the night, and then suddenly stopped. When the guards inspected the cell, the convict was dead with a terrible expression on his face and noticeable handprints around his throat. The autopsy revealed that the strangulation could not have been self-inflicted.
At the time, many believed the inmate was strangled by a guard who got tired of hearing the inmate scream, but no one ever admitted to the strangling. Most believed the prisoner was killed by the restless, evil spirit of the nineteenth century prisoner who was so often seen wandering the corridors.
As a footnote to this tale, when the guards lined-up the convicts for the daily count, there was one too many convicts in the line-up. At the end of the row, stood the recently strangled convict. As everyone looked on in stunned silence, the ghostly figure vanished.
As the years go by, ghost hunters, authors, crime buffs and curiosity-seekers continue to visit the island hoping to have their own encounter with the ghosts of Alcatraz. Although most encounter nothing, they do have a tendancy to leave with a feeling of uneasiness. The majority of the ghostly experiences of Alcatraz have been reported by former guards and national park service employees who often spend hours alone on the island. Many claim not to believe in the supernatural but occasionally, one of them will admit that weird things happen here that they cannot explain.

Well, they do if you’re at the Mason House Inn, Bentonsport, Iowa.

The Mason House Inn  is a cool old haunted hotel with tons of ghostly activity.  And if you’re just a bit weary of the ghosts keeping you up at night, you can always stay in their caboose lodgings.

There.

See?

Haunted hotels and trains do go together!

Mason House Inn was built in 1846 as a hotel for the steamboat travelers on the Des Moines River. That’s a lot of time for a place to acquire ghosts!

And they have a few.  They’re usually pretty active, too.

There’s an old lady by the fireplace in the dining room.

There’s a boy in knickers on the second floor landing who likes to wave to people.  Don’t see him?  Wave anyway, you’ll make him happy!

A man was murdered in Room 7.  He was just a traveler who had visited a local tavern and well, had a bit too much to drink since he tried to climb in a bed that wasn’t his.  Surprise surprise.  The man already occupying the bed took exception to the intrusion and promptly stuck a saber in the intruder’s heart.  The instant making of a ghost!

There’s also a lot of normal ghostly activity like orbs in pictures (don’t forget your camera!), foggy images in mirrors, doors opening and closing by themselves, footsteps when no one is there, all sorts of things ghosts like to do to make their presence known.

And what’s more, you can take a ghost hunting class at the Mason House Inn, too.  Yep, a real live ghost hunting class at a real live haunted hotel.

Way cool!

And what’s this about caboose lodgings?

Well, they also have a caboose you can stay the night in.  It’s one where you can climb up into the cupola, too.  A lot of caboose lodgings don’t have that little extra added bonus.  So this one is special, with a little table up in the cupola, too!

Wow!  A haunted hotel and a caboose, too.  What an adventure!

What to Do in Case of Haunting?

The haunting of premises or environments is caused by negative vibrations and energies residing there such as those of ghosts and departed ancestors.

Spiritual research has revealed that most houses around the world have some form of negative vibrations. These negative vibrations can be caused by a number of factors such as:

• The residents in the premises – are they doing any spiritual practice? If yes, does it conform to the five basic principles in spiritual practice http://www.spiritualresearchfoundation.org/spiritualresearch/happiness/spirituality/basicpricinples_spirituality_d.php ? What is their psychological profile?

• The premises – The type of construction, cleanliness of the house, the items in the house and their placement, etc. The plot of land that the house has been built on and the surrounding area – is it located in a spiritually conducive area or an area laden with negative, distressing energies?

• The purpose for which the premises is being used.

The Spiritual Science Research Foundation (SSRF) conducted research on some haunted houses/premises through the medium of ESP (Extra Sensory Perception) or an advanced sixth sense. Here are some results of this research:

1. In 50% of cases the haunting is due to the spiritual level of the residents, for eg. if the residents have a lot of personality defects such as anger, greed, addictions etc. they would attract ghosts or departed ancestors who have similar personality defects.

2. Up to 30% is based on the purpose for what the premises is being used. i.e. it could be used for tamasik purposes such as indulging in addictions, tamasik music such as techno or rave, etc. which can attract ghosts to the premises. The principle to remember here is simple and Universal: Like attracts alike. Good attracts good and bad attracts bad.

3. Up to 10% depends on the premises itself such as hospitals where many have died unnatural deaths, or jails where inmates have been tortured to death.

4. Up to 6% is due to other factors

5. Up to 2% is due to the plot of land

6. And the remaining 2% is due to the surroundings eg. a cemetery or graveyard nearby.Acknowledging the fact the House or Premises is haunted

Most people never realize till it is too late that there are distressing vibrations in their premises. This is because they are themselves affected by the subtle black energy of ghosts. They therefore do not perceive the presence of ghosts, departed ancestors nor the negative vibrations. The presence of a subtle black energy covering (on an average 4 cm.) over most people and lack of sixth sense makes them insensitive to the subtle distress due to the presence of ghosts.

This can be understood by the analogy of how medical personnel do not pick up or are not disturbed by the smell of medicines and disinfectant that permeates a hospital setting. So also those with an established covering of black energy feel good when raja-tama activities are abundant in the premises. What are the measures one can take to overcome haunting and negative vibrations in the premises?

Spiritual healing measures such as:

• Sprinkling of Holy water etc. http://www.spiritualresearchfoundation.org/spiritualresearch/spiritualhealing/incensesticks/usingholywater.php

• Lighting SSRF incense sticks

are extremely effective and tried and tested tools to reduce spiritual negativity in the premises. These healing measures have increased potency when done with devotion, spiritual emotion along with one’s regular spiritual practice.

There are various other remedies for the spiritual cleansing of premises with varying percentages of importance such as:

• Spiritual practice of residents in the premises – 30%

• The pleasing personalities of the residents – 30%

• Rituals performed to cleanse the premises on and off or on a regular basis -14%

• Visits by Saints to the premises -10%

• Keeping the doors and windows of the premises open -2%

• Miscellaneous – growing the holy basil plant – tulsi -10%

Summary:

Only spiritual practice that conforms to the 5 basic principles of Spirituality is a sustainable way to eradicate a ghost from the premises. The probability of an average exorcist/sorcerer/ psychic being able to remove ghosts is very low.
